Scholarships
In 2012 the Board of Directors of the Ports of Philadelphia Maritime Society approved the forming of a standing Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee is responsible for developing, administering, promoting and processing scholarship applications.
Interested students and individuals should apply by downloading the application forms below.
It is the Applicant’s responsibility to arrange for all supporting documentation listed above to be with the application. All material must be received by the required deadlines.
Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.
The completed application and required documentation shall be submitted no later than April 15, 2026.
Founded in 1935, the Ports of Philadelphia Maritime Society has been awarding scholarships to Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey residents and employees seeking education and advancement funding in the local Maritime Industry since 2012.
Up to SIX SCHOLARSHIPS have been approved for this year, in the amount of $4,000.00 each. Scholarships will be awarded in May. All applicants will either receive a letter with notice of award or a request to apply again next year.
Sponsorship Categories
Scholarship funds will be directly applied as indicated.
Industry Degree
(Current Or Future College/Academy Student)
Tuition for Post High School Student in Degree Program in a Higher Education Marine, Maritime, Engineering, Naval Architecture, Transportation or Logistics. Scholarship funds will be applied directly to the institution specified for tuition purposes.
Mariner Advancement
Tuition and expenses toward USCG required training for an original credential, license, or upgrade (not a renewal)**
Professional Development
Tuition and expenses toward attendance in a Certificated Professional Development Course related to Marine, Maritime or Port-Related Subject and or related employment. **
** Amount of scholarship will be based on expenses including, but not limited to courses, associated costs for travel, other incidentals. All costs must include receipts. The timeframe for these costs to be incurred shall be 6 months prior to the award and 12 months after the award to claim your scholarship.
